Starting December 1st, 2024, All telecom operators in India will implement new rules that aim to eliminate the need for One-Time Passwords (OTPs) for various mobile services. This new regulation, introduced by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), is set to enhance security and ease of use for millions of mobile users across the country.
Under the new rules, telecom companies will shift from the current OTP-based verification system to more secure, user-friendly methods, such as biometric authentication or device-based authentication. This change is expected to streamline processes like SIM swaps, mobile banking, and service activations, reducing delays and preventing fraud associated with OTPs.
This move comes as part of a broader initiative to strengthen digital security and improve customer experience. Telecom providers are expected to roll out updates to their systems in preparation for the transition, ensuring that the new authentication methods are in place by December 1st.
As the new rules take effect, mobile users will no longer need to rely on OTPs for routine activities, making the digital experience smoother and safer.
